FOCAL POINTS

As with great works of art,
having a focal point is
essential to good room
design. All compositions—
including interior spaces—
need a center of interest for
the composition to make
visual sense. Creating a
focal point in your room is
probably the most important
design step you can take. It
will help give your rooms
meaning, order and a feeling
of balance!
Tuscan Old World/Mediterranean Style Hints
Use Natures Colors and Nature's Color Combinations!

Think golden olive oil, creamy stucco walls in an old building, luscious green olives or the
rich burgundy of aged wine and you have some possibilities for
old world neutrals. Use
terra cotta as a neutral, as a Mediterranean accent color and for everything in between.
Use a tapestry wall hanging or painting as your
color guide when selecting Mediterranean
style wall color.

Bold simplicity, textural contrasts,
earthy colors, stone and tile are key Italian design
elements when creating an old world Mediterranean style living space.

Tuscan Style Kitchen Accessories

Tuscan style kitchen accessories are as beautiful as they are functional.  Celebrate the
functionality of the Tuscan kitchen. Create kitchen work areas filled with Tuscan style
accessories.  Display
olive oil bottles, Tuscan style pottery, Italian wines and copper
containers.
Showcase large iron trays and have them handy for use.

In your Tuscan kitchen, group
terra cotta urns and pottery pieces or a variety of baskets,
some reclining and some standing, on a an open shelf or above kitchen cabinets.

Hang a
wrought iron basket style pot rack above a sunny window and fill it with terra cotta
pots full of favorite
herbs. Choose a panel style iron pot rack and hang rustic copper
cooking vessels for an authentic Tuscan look.

Choose
natural stone or Italian tile for kitchen floors. Natural granite, engineered stone
and tile are excellent materials selected for Tuscan kitchen counter tops. Italian marble and
tumbled marble back splashes are ideal choices in rustic Tuscan kitchen design. Include
seating in your Tuscan style kitchen that is comfortable and welcoming to those who live
and visit there.
TIP OF THE WEEK
Ceilings are Important!

Paint a ceiling other than
white. It gives the room
warmth and interest. It is a
common misconception that
ceilings painted in darker
colors will make the room
feel closed in. Actually, the
opposite effect is achieved.

A white ceiling can be very
jarring. Painting the walls
and the ceiling a similar or
the same hue will make the
room seem larger.
